OEM Lamps

OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the lamp itself came from the same manufacturer as the lamp in your projector or television. Most brands use Osram, Philips, or Ushio lamps, while the housing is built by a third party. The brand will contract one of the lighting manufacturers to produce the lamp, which gets shipped to the projector factory.

OEM Compatible Lamps

An OEM compatible lamp is essentially a replica of the brand name OEM projector lamp; however, the lamps are produced by a generic company. These lamps are also placed in a housing by a third party and are usually less expensive.

While OEM compatible lamps are less expensive; the lamp life can vary, along with the quality of the lamp itself. However, OEM compatible lamps can be useful if you should need the lamp for a short amount of time or in a pinch.
