These splice connectors are for use with 5/8 inch, 2-wire rope lights and connect two spliced ends together, while the clear, plastic sleeves ensure the connection doesn't come apart. These splice connectors are not to be used in outdoor applications as they do not create a watertight seal.

I bought a couple spools of 5/8 inch rope light for a backyard party. Just in case, I also picked up a few of these splices, since they were cheap anyway.
Sure enough, a section of the rope light right above our bar (the focal point of our party) went out. Luckily, I had this connector on hand, so nobody was the wiser!
Definitely pick these up with any rope light.

Because my blue 5/8" superbright ropelight had a bad section, I had to cut it out and splice the ends together. The reason I originally bought the 5/8" rope was because of its obvious strength over the 3/8" and 1/2" product. The span was only a few feet but the splice gave way easily. I had to re-do it using super glue. It's ok now, but who want to do a pain-in-the-job twice, when I shouldn't have had to do it AT ALL!
