This bulb or the ever so slightly brighter NL-15427are excellent 60 watt replacement fluorescent bulbs to use at night since its color temperature very closely matches a standard incandescent bulb. The illumination is very warm and without any noticeable green cast once the bulb has warmed up a couple of minutes after being turned on.
Extremely compact fluorescent bulbs such as this and similar models do require a a couple of minutes, after being turned on, to fully warm up and produce their maximum glow. Note that 1000bulbs sells similar bulbs which have higher color temperatures. Such bulbs are more suitable for daytime work with open or partially opened window blinds, or in settings which feature overhead fluorescent lighting. CFL designs have improved. This bulb and similar bulbs are indeed noticeably superior compared to early CFL bulbs which were introduced around 4 to 5 years ago (overwhelmingly consumer rejected due to a strong green cast) in order to meet US congress legislation.
