Why Use PAR38 LEDs?
Using LED technology, PAR38s are more efficient than standard incandescent or halogen bulbs, meaning these last longer and use less energy. In fact, each PAR38 LED lamp can last up to 50,000 hours to save you money over the life of the bulb. LED light bulbs emit significantly less heat than other technologies, helping reduce the overall heat in an area and the AC needed to cool it. PAR38s are 4.75 inches in diameter and are typically used in large recessed can fixtures and landscape lighting fixtures. For outdoor applications, the PAR38 needs to be rated for either wet locations or enclosed fixtures so they are protected from the weather. Be sure to check the Safety Rating under the Specifications section on the product page before purchase. Several of our PAR38 LED bulbs are dimmable, have a high color rendering index, and are Energy Star certified. If using with an LED dimmer switch, check the Dimmer Compatible PDF linked on the product page to ensure your current dimmer will work with your new bulbs.
Beam Angle and Color Temperature Options
Our PAR38 LED bulbs come in a variety of beam angles:
- Narrow Spot: less than 10 degree beam angle
- Spot: 15 degree beam angle
- Narrow Flood: 25 degree beam angle
- Flood: 36 degree beam angle
- Wide Flood: greater than 50 degree beam angle
They are also available in a variety of color temperature options measured in Kelvin. The higher the Kelvin rating of the bulb, the cooler and more blue the light emitted will appear. The lower the Kelvin, the warmer and more yellow the light. A light bulb with a 2700K color temperature produces a warm white light that closely resembles the color light of an incandescent light bulb. If you prefer the color of halogen bulbs, choose a PAR38 LED with in the 3000-3500 Kelvin range. Lower Kelvin light is recommended for recessed and ambient lighting, while higher Kelvin light may be used in track, display, or task lighting.
What is High CRI Lighting?
CRI (color rendering index) is a quantitative measure of how accurately a light bulb displays colors compared to the midday sun. High CRI bulbs have a color rendering index of at least 90. Bulbs without a high CRI can make colors look washed out or inaccurate. While having bulbs with a high CRI is critical in places like clothing stores and art galleries, the average homeowner may not notice much of a difference in their home.
