LED Panels

Upgrade the lighting in schools, offices, hospitals, retail spaces, and more by replacing existing fluorescent troffers with this longer lasting and more efficient LED panels.

What are LED Panel Lights?

LED panel ceiling lights are thin, lightweight light fixtures designed for installation to drop ceilings. They are available in 1x4, 2x2, and 2x4 sizes and can be easily installed by one person for reduced labor costs. Some panels can also be suspended or surface mounted to a drywall ceiling when paired with compatible kits or hardware. Many flat panel LED lights are sold in packs for added convenience.

These fixtures utilize LED diodes. There are no bulbs to replace, making these panel lights extremely low maintenance. They use a fraction of the energy as traditional fluorescent fixtures and do not require a warmup period. LED Ceiling panels also have a long lifespan, easily outlasting their fluorescent counterparts.

Types of LED Panel Lights

There are two main types of LED flat panel lights: standard and selectable. Standard fixtures will have one wattage and one color temperature. Selectable LED panel lights, on the other hand, let you choose between multiple color temperatures, wattages, or both during installation. The output settings can be adjusted using switches located on the back of the fixture.

Edge-Lit vs. Back-Lit

How the LED diodes are installed to the panel determines how the fixture is lit. LED flat panel lights can be either edge-lit or back-let. Panels that are edge-lit have LED strips lining the edges of the fixture. The light is guided into a diffuser that evenly distributes the light output. Back-lit panels have rows of LED diodes installed across the back of the fixture, with the light output being channeled directly to the lens for even distribution.

Choosing the Right Color Temperature

Color temperature is an important factor to consider when selecting fixtures. Measured in Kelvin (K), color temperature is the color of the light output produced by the fixture. LED panel ceiling lights typically come in Kelvins ranging from 3000K to 5000K. Fixtures in the 3000 to 3500K range emit a warmer light similar to halogen lights. Ceiling light panels 4000K or higher deliver a cooler, more bluish light. This Kelvin range has been shown to help boost productivity, reduce eye strain, and increase visibility, making it a popular choice for commercial environments such as hospitals, classrooms, and office spaces.

LED Flat Panel Lights FAQs

Here are a few of the most frequently ask questions about LED ceiling panels.

Are panels the same thing as troffers?

  • No. While both fixtures are similar and are used in T-grid ceilings, they are not the same. Troffers are bulkier fixtures with a center basket, while panels are thin and flat.

How do LED panel lights install to drop ceilings?

  • Each panel has tabs on the back of the fixture. Once the LED driver has been wired, simply bend the tabs and hang the fixture directly from the drop ceiling.

Can LED panel lights be surface mounted?

  • Some LED flat panel lights can be surface mounted when paired with a compatible mount kit (sold separately).

Can LED panel lights be suspended from ceilings?

  • Some LED flat panel lights can be suspended with the use of a compatible hardware kits that are sold separately.

What are back-lit panels?

  • These fixtures have rows of LED diodes across the back of the fixture cavity, with the light output being channeled directly into the lens.

What are edge-lit panels?

  • Edge-lit panels are designed with rows of LEDs placed along the edges of the fixture. To create even illumination, the light output is guided into a diffuser.
